Vejigante Mask
Vejigante Masks are made in Puerto Rico. The design has great African & Taino Indian Influence. They represent the Battle of Good vs. Evil. Traditionally made using dried cow bladder,9-[oi the design has evolved using coconut shell, paper mache & decorated in many patterns, colors, horns and ornate objects.

Vejigante Mask Mal de Ojo
Mal de ojo. Evil eye Vejigante. Although non traditional you will find elaborate Monster masks found in Ponce, Puerto Rico. My take of Mal de ojo represents judgement.
Passing judgement is contradictory, denying, REJECTING, resisting AND invalidating.

About the Artist
Christina Gonzalez began her artistry at an early age & graduated with an art scholarship.
Frank Lloyd Wright was her first inspiration which led her to study the streets & museums of NYC, sketching buildings and interiors. This led to other art forms in Balloon Sculpture, Party Decor and Event Planning. One of the highlights of her career was working with the Walt Disney Co. for two release parties held in Central Park & the United Nations.
When she discovered painting it unleashed a new love in her art journey. Applying brush strokes and texture to her paintings led her to a new form of expressionism.
Christina uses many art materials during her creative process. Oil paint, acrylics, gouache and recycled materials like newspaper and plastics are what you will find in some pieces, adding texture and meaningful hidden messages.
The importance of her culture, female empowerment & subjective emotion are expressed in her works.
Christa Gonzo Gallery wishes to share her vision in hopes you can relate to her work and find inspiration.
